Paint Sealant Vs. Car Wax

Ceramic Sealant vs. Car Wax

The car care world has been flooded with an assortment of options that are designed for one purpose - to help you protect and enhance the paintwork on your car. The two major protectants on the market today are car waxes and car sealants. You may be wondering, is there even a difference between car wax and sealant? Is there a right choice? Our guide on the differences between sealant and car wax will help you understand the major differences between these two very similar products, and allow you to make the decision that is best for you and your ride.

Car Wax

Car waxes generally contain the same major ingredient - carnauba wax. Carnauba wax does not wash away with water, is able to stand up to high temperatures, and is soft, natural, and easy to work with. When applied, carnauba wax adds a very warm glow to your paint coating. After using a quality car wax, you'll see colors on your paint enhanced and imperfections minimized. On darker colors, carnauba wax products help give your paint depth and intensity. On brighter colors, it creates a bright and vibrant shine. For a natural product, carnauba wax provides a beautiful finish that is near impossible to match and strong protection when formulated with other ingredients.

Unfortunately, even the best wax has natural limitations. The major downside of car wax (compared to paint sealant) is its lack of consistent durability. Even though carnauba wax can stand up to most summer temperatures, it is not invincible. As car wax sits on a hot coat of paint, temperatures of the paint surface can reach over the melting point of carnauba wax (about 180°F). Over time, this will cause the wax to evaporate and your car will lose its protective coating. Waxes are also inconsistent in withstanding different soaps and certain car detergents. These limitations can be easily mitigated by applying a wax coating more often, but that does take time out of your day!

Flitz Ceramic Sealant

Sealants are engineered and chemically formulated to provide the best possible protection for your cars' paint - Designed to provide a higher level of durability than wax products. Flitz Ceramic Sealant creates a hard shell around your car which completely resists water and protects against extreme heat, UV rays, harsh detergent, and general wear.

They provide the best protective coat available while still providing an excellent shine and beautiful reflective properties. The beauty of ceramic sealants is that they enhance the look of the surface they’re applied to. So if your vehicle has a pronounced shine, ceramic sealant tends to amplify the appearance of the shine. Perhaps even better, if your vehicle has one of the new modern flat or matte finishes, ceramic sealants do not add gloss. Again, they merely amplify the appearance of the surface underneath. This provides the possibility of providing additional protection for matte finishes without the gloss of a wax.

Wax or Sealant: It's Your Call

As with all things as personal as a vehicle, what you use is all about personal preference. We designed Flitz Ceramic Sealant with a few key things in mind:

  • Ease of use. Flitz Ceramic Sealant was purposefully designed to be a simple and fast application. Spray on, spread out with a soft microfiber and then buff off immediately with a separate clean microfiber. You can literally do your car in less than half an hour.
  • Price and performance. A great product isn’t worth a darn if you can’t afford it. High end ceramic sealants can run as high as $90 - $120 per ounce or more and require professional application. For less than the price of a full-service car wash, an 8oz bottle of Flitz Ceramic Sealant delivers enough to do at least two full size cars.
  • Time. Unlike having to wax your car an average of every 4 to 6 weeks, one application of Flitz Ceramic Sealant will protect your vehicle up to 6 months or more depending on conditions and how much you drive. Any way you slice it, that’s a savings of at least two to three Saturday’s every summer!

Flitz Ceramic Sealant was designed so that anyone could give their car, truck or boat professional protection fast and affordably. The fact that professional auto, marine and aviation detailers around the world re-order Flitz Ceramic Sealant from us month-after-month is one of the best compliments we get. Like every Flitz Product, Flitz Ceramic Sealant is unconditionally guaranteed. Try it for yourself on your favorite ride. (BTW, did we mention it works great on countertops? Well… that’s another blog post.)
