5 Ways to Clean Your Copper

Copper is a relatively easy metal to clean, you can use anything from ingredients in your kitchen to store bought cleaners devoted to cleaning and polishing copper and similar materials with comparable results.

Here are 5 methods that we recommend when learning how to clean copper household items.

1. Vinegar and Salt

Mix together the vinegar and salt, pour onto the copper surface and rub consistently to remove built up tarnish. Once done, rinse thoroughly, then dry and polish with a clean, dry cloth. Polish with beeswax for a bright finish with the best results.

2. Lime

Cut a lime or lemon in half. Use the open fruit and rub the juices over the copper, covering all of the tarnished surface. Once done, rinse thoroughly, then dry and polish the surface with a clean, dry cloth. Polish with beeswax for a bright finish with the best results.

3. Lime and Salt

Squeeze the lime or lemon juice from one lime/lemon into a bowl. Add salt and then mix together to form a paste. Rub the paste over the tarnished copper with a microfiber cloth. Once done, rinse thoroughly, then dry and polish with a clean, dry cloth. Polish with beeswax for a bright finish with the best results.

4. Salt, Vinegar, and Flour

Mix 1 tablespoon salt with 1 cup of white vinegar. Make into paste-like mixture by gradually adding flour. Apply a coat paste to tarnished copper using a soft microfiber cloth, the coat of paste sit for at least 15 minutes or up to an hour. Rinse thoroughly. Finally, dry and polish with a clean, dry cloth.

5. Tarnish Remover

Recommended for larger copper surfaces. Spray tarnish remover directly onto the surface of the tarnished copper and wipe clean with a microfiber cloth, no rubbing or buffing necessary. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth.
